What to read next?

Postby Ubik on Fri Sep 09, 2016 10:48 pm

I have read these books in this order,

1) Servants of twilight
2) Velocity
3) Winter Moon
4) The Bad Place
5) Dragon Tears

Dragon Tears was my favourite of the bunch, The Bad Place a close second.

What would be the best option to follow with next out of the options I have picked up.

I liked THE FACE a lot and have read it a couple times.

I also liked BY THE LIGHT OF THE MOON and have also read that one a couple times.

COLD FIRE is alright, but not my favorite among those four.

I haven't read MIDNIGHT in a while so i don't quite remember what it was all about.

Definitely go with "Cold Fire". It came out between "The Bad Place" and "Dragon Tears" and is very similar in style and story. It's also one of my own favorites. "BTLOTM" is another favorite, so read that one next. I'd like to imagine Koontz writing a sequel to both "Cold Fire" and "BTLOTM", in which the heroes of both meet up. You'll understand after you've read them.

Then move on to "The Face". This one and "BTLOTM" were published a couple of years before "Velocity", so they are somewhat similar in style like that one yet not quite. "Velocity" is a more of a straight forward, high concept thriller, while the other two have a bit of the supernatural in them.

I've never really liked "Midnight", perhaps because I read it after "Fear Nothing" and "Seize the Night" and felt it was too similar to those. But I know many people love it, so definitely give it a go, eventually.
"There's a difference between knowing you are, and simply being."

Last read: "Hades" by Mark Z. Danielewski
Now reading: "Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson (0%)
Next up: "Crimson Death" by Laurell K. Hamilton

I really liked Dragon Tears too. Cold Fire is a great choice, let us know what you think of it. I suggest The Face for the next read. It will be a good transition from your recent reads into the changing style of Koontz. You will be more prepared for this newer style that will be evident in By the Light of the Moon (and The Face). Midnight wasn't one of my favorites.
I am inclined to believe in parallel worlds filled with darkbound Snow and Odd adventures.

I think Winter Moon will be a great choice for everyone, especially if you don't know how to spend your winter holidays/evenings...
