Stephenie Meyer

I think it's about time we started a thread instead of hijacking a bunch of others.

So I'm a little past the point in Twilight where Bella sees Edward in sunlight. I remember film critics making fun of vampires sparkling in sunlight. But in reality, I love the fact that she takes accepted mythology and turns it upside down, so instead of bursting into flames they become even more beautiful. BTW, since all vampires in this series are breathtakingly beautiful, is it ever explained? Like do they lose whatever unattractive features they had as humans when they turn vampire? Or do they start looking completely different from what they were? In "regular" mythology, they just look the same only possibly with pointier teeth.

I have no idea about that one. I would love to know myself. I just finished TWILIGHT about an hour ago and can't wait to pick up NEW MOON. I find it fascinating how Edward sparkles in the sunlight. I, like you, love how Meyer takes a myth that's supposed to be evil and dark and turns it into a love story :)

I feel guilty for hijacking the other threads. Whoops.

That's OK. White Wolf is a very liberal (in a good way) moderator.

OK so it's not explained how they become so good looking. Maybe becoming immortal does it to you. Or maybe it's part of their special abilities that they just APPEAR good looking to humans.

I always like twists in mythology. Like Angel getting his soul back via a curse. That was very different.

I also liked when Edward talks about taking the hand you're dealt and still making the best of it and retaining as much morality as you can. Reminds me of my favorite line in Lord of the Rings.

I think WhiteWolf is an anarchist. An absent anarchist. Why do people keep calling her Meyers? Isn't it just Meyer?

Yeah it is Meyer, Snowman. Who keeps calling her Meyers? Nobody that I've seen...

WW is awesome. I'm so glad he's our mod. He's so cool and hilarious. I wish he's be around more often. He's too busy saving the world one plate at a time.

I do remember in the book how if they had a special gift in particular in their mortal life that it became even more of a gift in their immortal life. Such as Edward's reading minds, Jasper's ability to affect emotions, and Alice's foresight.

I'm thinking that maybe the marble skin (temperature wise, as well as color) was unique to all immortal "cold ones". Because the whole Cullen family had no blood relation, yet their skin was described as being the same. And apparently they all had the same effect in the sun because Alice and Jasper took a specific car to block the sun (you'll find this out towards the end...sorry but I didn't ruin much at all). And they all were exquisitely gorgeous. I believe that was an affect of just being a vampire. It was part of their predatory allure. Even if prey wanted to escape they would be so mesmerized by the allure of the "cold one" that they wouldn't be able to turn and run. That type of thing...at least that's what I think anyway.

Oh, really? Is that why you're reading it now then, hmm?

He started that thing months ago! It is kind of dry though compared to other books. Forget him, you'd have to be a girl to "get it" anyway. ;-)
